Once a week this summer we ran a little virtues summer camp at the Baha'i Centre. Children from the neighborhood came and learned about using the good qualities God had given us through art, drama, games, music, and prayer. Check out the "Summer Virtues Camp" album for some pictures from the final presentation they did.

We had an eventful summer! Checkout the pictures and descriptions in the "summer adventures" album and "Richard's birthday caving adventure".

We finally updated our pictures with some from our staff kayaking trip and Richie's 1st chess Olympiad. We have had a busy few months with what seems like one thing after another, what we would give for an eventless weekend! Hurricane season started today, and already tropic storm Arthur has brought the rains. This is after months without a drop. The electricity company is in dispute with the government so power has been going on and off and for some reason so has the water. It makes you appreciate days without interruptions in utilities. Last weekend was the Belize Baha'i National Convention. We had a lovely time with our Baha'i friends from all over Belize and had some wonderful discussions.

Welcome to our Belizean Life!

These are the stories and pictures of our little family coping with the daily joys and challenges of raising a family, running a business, engaging in community and religious service, and fostering a marriage. It is a way for us to keep in touch with our loved ones all over the globe. Make sure to sign up to get updates when we add more. Hey Beanes! It's been a while since I peeked in here. I am so glad that everyone seems to be doing well. As usual, the updates make me envious (well, except for the hurricane ones). The pictures (especially of the MBs and sleeping beauties) are awesome. I think it's incredible what you have accomplished and wish you continued success, happiness and good health.

Hi Heitha. I was just looking into ordering tickets to the Santa Fe Opera for next season and it got me wondering what ever became of everyone. Your name is the most Google-able of everyone so it wasn't hard to find you. Miriam Crowe is also an easy one. She's still doing lighting design (http://www.wingspace.com/pmwiki.php/Collaborators/Miriam). I'm like you. I got out and into other things. Glad to see you are happy and healthy, and your thriving family!

Heitha~ Your family becomes more beautiful with every new photo. We are settled in now, here in Texas, and Gordon's parents will be moving down in a year! We'll not be alone anymore! I would LOVE to come visit; Perhaps in a year or so we'll be able to. Best wishes for you and your family, always. ~Maddie

Happy Nawruz Beane family! I love Nia's feelings pics because they remind me so much of what Mia is up to these days. The Ayyam-i-ha party looked like lots of fun and I was literally drooling when I saw pictures of the juicy BBQ and beans, and tortilla and coleslaw. I miss that Belizean food so bad! Much love to all of you...we'll probably be seeing you in Belize next year sometime.

Richard and Heitha - wow! This is the first time to see your site or to hear how you're doing since you left. Congratulations! Your life looks wonderful! And some interesting parallels to our family's journey to Ethiopia -- except we don't have snakes & tarantulas here. I've subscribed now we can can keep up with what's happening. By the way, you had given us some of Richie's shoes, and now that the kids are growing into them, Richie's shoes are now treading the streets of Addis Ababa!

Thanks for the updates! It looks like the kids have assimilated to school well (love the "comparison" photo of Nia and Richie on their first days). Take care and we'd love to see you in December if you have an extended stay in the area! However, only if you are tarantula-less! :) Marie, Bill, Luke, and Lila

Hey, Richard and family! I hope you are enjoying living in Belize - I used to love visiting there from Guatemala! Do you eat at Mom's? Love to all the Belizean Baha'is - most of whom wouldn't know me from a bag of elbows, but still ;)

Hey girl, Uh..... I know last week I was telling you that I was highly consdering a move to Belize if I could live in a place that had hot water. Can you add to that list a place with NO snakes, tarantulas and beetles, or bugs for that matter. Perhaps I too need to undergo hypnosis to rid me of my fear of bugs (a fear I didn't realize I had until now).I am proud of you, Heitha. You've come a long way :) I remember how scared you were of the crickets in your basement!

Hey there richard and family it sure is good to see that you are doing alright. I hope to see more of your family's pictures you have alot to be proud of again congratulations on your new life in Belize and good luck.

Wowzers, Heitha, I'm never going to look at a cashew the same way again. :-) Best wishes to you and your family from an old classmate in the Windy City. Drop me a line if you like, or I'm keeping my own blog up at windycitymike.com, too. Take care ...

Hi All.. MY GOODNESS! What an ordeal! I have to say, in all of my 19 years of living in Belize, I didn't know that eating the cashew seed raw could have such dire consequences! I'm sorry you had to learn that one the hard way...and thanks for sharing that with us. Nia looks so beautiful in her pictures, and you all seem to be thriving down there...well except for the near death experience with the cashew! We think of you all often, and certainly miss your radiant faces here in VA. Love, Hediyeh & Charles & Mia (who just turned 1 :o) )

Dear Heitha and family, It is wonderful to see all of you are doing great. Through viewing your website, Amy created her own website at ParentShack titled AmysWorld. We went to China to visit my family last fall. It was a great trip and it was Amy's first visit to China as well. We are doing fine here in Stafford VA. We maintained our assembly and really need more active members in our community.

Dearly -loved Beanes, Your new house is gorgeous - you should enter it into a "before and after" contest and you would win. Your talent for making something beautiful is awe-inspiring my dear daughter. I am SO sorry to hear about the rain and am very grateful that we didn't have that weather when we were there! I also hope for great weather when the Beanes are visiting. Hopefully the sun came out by now and you are able to dry your clothes. My opinion - BUY A DRYER! I love all of you so much, Mom/Nana
   - Mom/Nana (Pennsylvania)

Hey Beanes! I have to say, you're doing a better job than I think I could ever do on keeping this site up-to-date. Keep the pictures coming! Reading about the snakes gives me the chills, but also prompted me to do a little bit of research. I had previously heard about some chemical stuff that was supposed to have been used in Vietnam during the war, but a lot of the web sites say there is no 100% proof deterrent. Possibly "Dr. T's Snake-A-Way" may come close. In general the best advise seems to be to leave them alone and to change the environment so it's not inviting anymore (e.g., building a fence that goes at least 1Ft under ground, removing areas where rodents can hide, etc.) I guess it's something one has to deal with, including myself, since I'd like to retire somewhere in the south, where snakes are more prevalent. I'm glad that all of you are OK and am not surprised that the kids seem to have made the transition the fastest. I hope that your new business venture becomes a rousing success and wish the four of you the very best for 2006.

Hey Beane's, You guys look INCREDIBLE! I've been thinking about how life must be for you all and the pictures speak a 1000 words! We really miss you all here.. especially on Sundays at OWBS...but it's fantastic that you guys are pioneering in Belize, and you're enjoying it. Anyway, just wanted to check in on you guys. Give our love to the Baha'is down there...ttys. Lots o' love, Hediyeh, Charles and Mia

Boy, would we love to switch with you guys... 84 degrees!...It is a whole 8 degrees today in good old or should we say cold old Ann Arbor with a wind chill that drops the temperature to BELOW ZERO, way BELOW ZERO! As for looting, it is funny that you mention that because today the television reports here seem to be focusing on Christmas thieves in shoppiing malls and an increase in mall thefts...Our high temperature for the week will be a whole 20 degrees...so when can we go visit?! :) Even Kodie has to go outside with a sweater and boots.

Nia and Richie are growing so fast that it is hard to believe...they are absolutely gorgeous! We love the photos, especially the one of Abuela Phyllis and Nia on your homepage. We hope to see you once the twins are born and able to travel. Belize looks beautiful and reminds us of Costa Rica. It sounds like you are all having a great experience but make sure those snakes stay away. Isn't there an animal you can have as a pet that scares or eliminates these snakes? In Puerto Rico we let our dogs get the snakes and they kept the snakes away for sure. We love you all and miss you tons! Tio Jonathan, Titi Jodie, the twins & Kodie

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed in the things that you did not do, than by the ones that you did. Hello Beane family, I'm so happy to hear everything is going great for the 4 of you. Reading about your adventures in Belize makes me smile, for I can relate to some of the more interesting perks of living life outside the lower 48. Not all bad just interesting. My two favorites are the daily loss of electricity and cow crossings (CCS). The CCS take the cake though, beacuse no matter where you are dirt road, main road, high road, if a farmer needs to herd his/her cattle across, he has every right to stop traffic and send the ladies on their way. Of course this lil' misadventure for the cows(and us)could go from 3 to 15 minutes depending on whether the cows believe that the grass is greener on the other side. Sometimes they need to be convinced. And if you're lucky you can catch CCS all through the day. :) aaahhhhh life in Belgium Anyway enjoy and keep in touch.
