Video uploading and display is live!
As a ParentShack family website owner, you can now upload and display high quality web videos on your site. Today’s successful launch represents the most important feature change to ParentShack since we started the company way back in 2000.
With this major new product feature, ParentShack becomes the only family website provider to offer you the following features in one place:
- photo display
- video display
- high-quality photo prints and gifts
- automatic friends and family notifications
- a personal family journal
- guestbooks on your homepage, photos and videos
- detailed usage statistics tracking, and
- over a hundred family-focused site backgrounds
When you upload your first video, you’ll notice that we have added a progress bar to give you an idea of how long the upload will take. As a rough estimate, figure 1 to 5 minutes per MB.
After your file is uploaded, we will automatically convert it into a smaller web-friendly video format, so please be sure to save the original file on your home computer.
To start, we’ll allow uploading of the following video types: MPG, AVI, WMV and MOV. Give us suggestions in the comments for other formats you’d like supported.
The maximum size of an individual video that can be uploaded is determined by the package that you have.
- 25 MB Starter Sites: Can upload videos up to 25 MB
- 250 MB Full Sites: Can upload videos up to 250 MB
- 1,000 MB Premium Sites: Can upload videos up to 1,000 MB
To commemorate this occasion, we’ve added a few new video-themed backgrounds to complement your little Zack Efrons and Dakota Fannings. We’ll add more in the future.

WOW! I can’t tell you how excited I am about this!!! We’ve been loading our pictures on ParentShack and our videos on YouTube but now we can do it in the same place! We never liked how public our kid’s videos were on YouTube, so this will be great for us.
I just uploaded our first video today and loved the progress meter you all built. Please add it to the photo upload form too!

I agree that its very nice being able to put videos on the Parentshack website instead of YouTube. I shoot video with our digital still camera and it saves it in Quicktime format. I didn’t have any problems uploading a video clip as long as it was less than 25 sec. long (I have a old value account that only allows up to 25mb uploads). I had one clip that was about 1 minute and so I trimmed it in my Adobe Premier Elements 4 program to 23 sec. and went to export it as a Quicktime file and it was still over 100mb so I guess I might be upgrading my account (which I’m sure ParentShack would love!!). Saying that, myself and my family who are located all over the U.S. LOVE Parentshack. Parentshack might want to consider increasing some more storage space (even though they recently did) because as parents…..I think we ALL take a lot of video of our children.

Bravo ParentShack! This is such a great new feature to have on our family website. Not only is it a great new addition, but you have executed it very well. I love the status bar that tells me how much of my file has been uploaded…YouTube doesn’t even do that!
Thanks for creating a photo (and now video) site that is perfectly suited to families on the web. There are certainly other photo and video sharing sites out there, but I haven’t found one with such a strong focus on parents and their kids…not to mention the ease-of-use and security you have built-in. This is VERY important to our family and I’m sure many others.
We’re looking forward to the next features!

My family in Texas is raving about seeing our newest addition wriggling around in her bassinet up here in Ohio! I’ve already got 15 guest book comments on that video alone and I only put it up today! The photos are great to have, but the video really knocks them out!
